discussion

A dialogue around innovation, the making of the new, the originary. A very necessary enquiry in some geographies, because it is precisely the originary that has become the most recessive.

One of the ways to discover what is originary is to go back, not so much chronologically, but more in the manner of an excavation, till the source of something is found. Another approach perhaps, is to look at the force and velocity of the encounter between the old and the new, especially the ambivalent, fractured and charged spaces between them.

What is the idea of innovation in the different cultures from which we will be coming together? The stress that falls on the idea of innovation differs greatly from place to place. Can it be spoken of outside a sense of place, of context, even now, when we can read and see things that do not happen where we live? Can the new ever be something outside our experience?

These questions are meant only, as in our past dialogues, to conjure up a space, open, through which each writer may pass as they wish.

Each writer will have about 10-15 minutes, for a laying out of thoughts, a provocation for further discussion, open ended.
